Good to know

The Rockford is a free-standing house with a lovely back yard, off-street parking. Don't worry about morning coffee! We have a coffee pot and cups to get your morning started right. It is close to public transportation, close to services, sights, and restaurants in walking distance. This was my full-time home for many years and has been maintained with loving attention, complete with thoughtful touches throughout. Like anything that is 126years old, you will find some interesting quirks and lovely features. There are 7 stairs to the 1st-floor entry -- and those stairs may be more well suited to some travelers than others. P Bedroom 1 : 1st floor BAthroom # 1 - 1st Floor Bedroom 2 : 2nd floor with sitting room, desk, daybed and private bathoom. Please review the layout information and our house rules/policies to see if you’re a good match. It is a complete unit and has everything you have at your house -- from pots and pans to sheets and towels.

Other Details to Note

No smoking - of anything. This means cigarettes, pipes, cigars, marijuana or insense. No pets. No parties or events. We are not joking about the smoking, pet or parties - if we discover you have violated any of these house rules, we will request that you immediately vacate the property. May not be safe or suitable for children (0-12 years) and the house is not child proofed. Check in time is 4pm or flexible with a agreed upon discussion The basement is locked off from the house - you will not have access and I do not access the 1st and 2nd floor. The basement is occasionally used by me, as my workroom/innkeeper's quarters are there.

Our stay was wonderful. Everything was better than expected. The bathrooms and kitchen were clean and well stocked. We felt right at home. Elizabeth was helpful and timely with all our needs. The location was great quiet and beautiful. We were near family, walked to the local bowling alley, and even caught lightning bugs in the evening. We rented a car and parking was great and only 20 minutes to downtown. My wife and I and our 7 year old grandson loved it. Thank you Elizabeth.

Great home and location. My friend and I were doing 2 craft shows on the weekends and need a quiet location to chill. Elizabeth’s place was just prefect! She gave us great suggestions on things to do on our free days, Frank Lloyd Wright house and studio, Metra into Chicago and the water taxis to China town and local restaurants and grocery stores. She’s better than a hotel concierge. Great place to stay and we look forward to staying there again when we come to Chicago!

Had the best trip to Chicago! Me and my husband recently had the pleasure of staying in this colorful home on our trip to the city. The location was perfect, quiet and safe but close enough to shopping and grocery stores (wholefoods, my fav) all within walking distance. We got coffee in the morning and had some beautiful walks exploring the charming town and then took the Greenline into the city for some additional sightseeing and shopping. I would put a disclaimer out to anyone who is not comfortable with city public transit, as this can be a tad overwhelming and risky depending on who's on the train. It does run throughout the city, very convenient. Elizabeth was a wonderful host offering lots of suggestions based on our interests and fast at responding. I hope I get the luxury of her hospitality again in the future!

We loved this stay and can't wait to return. It's a older, clean, well loved & maintained home, in a beautiful, quiet and safe neighborhood. We're moving and this was a test for the style of home, community and train system. We drove in, but used CTA all week. The walk to the train was an easy 15 minute's or 20. The walk to the main street just 10. We were out late most nights, St. Patrick's Day week, but never felt unsafe walking back at 1am or so. So many good restaurants, we couldn't try them all! Fun little pubs on the corners. A comedy club with free shows during the week, and the friendliest people. This was the best holiday/ scouting trip I could have hoped for. Now, I could write a novella about how wonderful Elizabeth is. I've traveled all over the world, in many rentals, and she is hands down the best in service I've experienced. From email updates to a full call about restaurants on our drive in, she exceeds anything we expected and we will be renting here again.

This is easily one of my favorite Airbnb’s. My husband and I come to Chicago often to visit grandkids and this place is just perfect for us! It’s close by my daughter, Forest Park is a great walkable and safe neighborhood. The house itself feels like it belongs in the countryside of England. It’s cozy and full of beautiful antiques and vintage pieces. I loved it. Probably not suitable for families with toddlers—I’d be afraid they’d break something. So many Airbnb’s have uncomfortable chairs, stiff couches and not to great beds. Not this place. So comfortable! I will definitely seek this place out for our next trip. And Elizabeth is a great host! Friendly and welcoming and responsive to any questions we had. A great find!

The location was excellent. We were able to walk to great restaurants on Madison Ave. It was close to the western suburbs (20 mins to Oakbrook) as well as downtown and public transportation. The uni was very clean and I would definitely stay again.
